How Lash Extensions Work: Preparing for Your Lash Appointment

At Siroki Lash Studios, we care about you AND your Lashes!

So many people ask me what comes with wearing lash extensions ... the commitment, is it worth it, how much upkeep is involved?

Don't worry, I got you!

We all want to know the perks but with everything great you must sacrifice! Just kidding, so morbid right?

If we are being real there is a definitive commitment to having lash extensions & the matter of whether or not it is "worth it" is up to the individual, so let's get into it!

What to avoid!

Getting lashes is NOT a spur of the moment decision you must prepare.

  • Lash extensions retention is based on your lash artist, and you! We can apply them but after you leave us it is in your hands to take care of them! (find more info on after care in my other blog posts) I told you, I got you! 😉

  • Remember... If the price is too low you gotta go! Do your research, oftentimes people will try to skip out on the cost of education or quality products in order to lower their costs and grab more clients.

  • These low prices are typically warning signs. Think about it, how are they still making a profit doing your lashes if the cost is so cheap? You get what you pay for!

DO NOT CUT CORNERS WHEN THEY CAN CUT YOUR CORNEAS!

10 Steps to Take Before and After Your Lash Appointment

1. Look into the lash artist.

Request proof of certification and a license. If the artist can not provide at least one of these two things, run for the hills!

2. Plan to arrive at least 5-10 minutes early to your lash appointment.

This gives you enough time to address any final questions or concerns & always, always, always ask questions if you are unclear or worried about something!

3. Allot yourself the proper amount of time for the lash extension service.

Let others in your life know you are going to be busy for a while. Lash appointments can last anywhere from 1.5 - 4 hours and your eyes will be shut the entire time. Perfect excuse to catch up on that beauty sleep isn't it?

4. Be prepared to invest in a new makeup remover and facial cleanser the day of your service.

So, you've taken the plunge and gotten lash extensions. Congratulations! They look amazing, and you feel like a brand new person!

But now that you've got them, it's important to take care of them properly, so that you can enjoy your lash extensions for as long as possible.

At Siroky Lash Studios, we actually offer complimentary after care kits that contain a foam lash shampoo, a lash washing brush, and a card with a link to our website that answers any frequently asked questions and provides you with everything you need to know to properly care for lashes at home, with every new lash install so you don’t have to worry about what maintenance and care looks like for your lashes. Lash extension aftercare is not difficult, but there are a few things you need to keep in mind.

  • First, be gentle with your lash extensions. They are delicate, and if you're too rough with them, they won't last as long.

  • Second, avoid oil-based products around your lash extensions. Oil will break down the adhesive that holds your lash extensions in place, so it's best to steer clear of anything oily (including makeup removers) near your lash line. This is also why it’s important to make sure and wash those lashes daily. This ensures you wash away those natural oils that accumulate throughout the day and overnight.

  • Third, brush your lash extensions regularly to keep them looking their best & in place. A mascara wand will do the trick - just be gentle!

By following these simple tips, you can enjoy your lash extensions for weeks or even months at a time.

5. Be sure that you have the time in your schedule to come back for lash touch-ups every 2-3 weeks.

Fill in appointments are generally shorter and less costly if you keep up with them.

6. Try a more natural lash look your first time!

You can always add more drama later on down the line. Remember they are long lasting but not permanent! The last thing you want is to wake up to two caterpillars sitting on your face when you just expected some extra length… Remember you can always add more lashes, but take it slow! Your perfect lash set will come in time.

7. If you are a habitual eye rubber you have to stop!

Rubbing and pulling your lashes will cause damage to your natural lashes and decrease how long your new set of extensions last. Not to mention, it is painful!

8. Schedule that facial procedure 24-48 hours before your lash application appointment.

Facials can interfere with the lashing process due to product residue.

9. No more waterproof mascara!

I suggest clear mascara, if you must, it does the trick when you want to get the makeup residue off!

Lash extensions exist to make getting ready easier. No need to add mascara. If you want more drama, just tell your lash artist.

10. Make sure you eat something before your lash appointment!

I always say eat, drink, and handle your business (yes, that business) before you get into the lash bed.
